Finalist Announced For Hoar Construction “Reading and Writing Contest”
Mobile, Ala – For the 5th consecutive year, the GMAC Bowl is hosting The Hoar Construction “Reading and Writing Contest” to promote reading and writing at the 5th grade level. The contest, which began on September 15, 2005, was open to all fifth graders in the state of Alabama and the Gulf Coast regions of Florida and Mississippi. Out of 5,000 entries from fifth graders around the southeast, 10 finalists have been chosen for the contest.
Students that participated in the program were instructed to read a book and submit a written book report in 250 words or less following the entry form guidelines. A panel of judges selected 10 finalists who have been invited to Mobile, to participate in the final stage of the program. That stage will consist of writing an additional short book report of a pre-selected book for the judges.
On Wednesday, December 14, 2005 beginning at 9:30am the 10 winners will join 2000 4th grade students from Mobile at the Civic Center Theater in a special awards ceremony that will include a presentation by the Blue Angels, the South Alabama Cheerleading Squad, and a visit from America’s Junior Miss. 2005 Kelley Schutz. Savings bonds will be awarded to the 10 winners ranging from $10,000 for first place to $500 for 10th place. In addition, the 10 winners will also be invited to attend the events taking place during Bowl week including the FCA Breakfast, the GMAC Financial Services Mayor’s Luncheon, the Greer’s Mardi Gras Parade, and the GMAC Bowl Game that takes place on Wednesday, December 21, 2005.
