In the 2000 Bowl, Southern Mississippi quarterback Jeff Kelly threw a 29-yard touchdown pass with eight seconds remaining to lift the Golden Eagles over 13 th ranked TCU. In the highest scoring game in college football bowl history, the Thundering Herd of Marshall, led by quarterback Byron Leftwich, overcame a 30 point halftime deficit to rally past East Carolina 64-61 in double overtime to win the 2001 Bowl.
