Coors Light Celebrity Golf Tournament

Mobile, Ala – The GMAC Bowl in conjunction with Gulf Distributing will be hosting the 8th Annual Coors Light Celebrity Golf Tournament on Tuesday, May 2, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove. The tournament is the kick-off event for the 2006 GMAC Bowl and officially starts the countdown for the December classic.

The Coors Light Celebrity Golf Tournament is just one of nineteen events held in conjunction with the annual Bowl, which is held each December. Other events include: The GMAC Bowl Regatta, FCA Breakfast, GMAC Financial Services Mayor’s Luncheon and a Mardi Gras Parade.

“We’re really exited about this year’s tournament,” remarked GMAC Bowl Executive Director Frank Modarelli. “Over 350 golfers are scheduled to tee it up at Magnolia Grove, so it looks like another sellout!” “There are not many courses that could handle a field that large, but the staff at Magnolia Grove makes it look easy. It’s such a great course and when you mix in all the celebrities and local players, it adds up to an exciting day of golf.”

There will be a pairings party held at 6 PM on Monday, May 1st at the Mobile Marriott Hotel for the teams, sponsors and celebrities. The scramble format tournament will feature a shotgun start (8:00 AM) with prizes for top finishers. The public is invited to Magnolia Grove on May 2nd to snap pictures and collect autographs.

Celebrities participating in the Classic will include: Andy Kosco, Yankee’s and Reds; Wright Waters, SunBelt Conference Commissioner; Mark Gottfried, Head Basketball Coach, University of Alabama; Vince Costello, Cleveland Browns; Wimp Sanderson, University of Alabama; Johnny Majors, University of Pittsburgh; Ron Meyer, Indianapolis Colts; Cliff Stout, Pittsburgh Steelers; Bill Oliver; University of a Alabama. Coaches from Conference USA and the Mid American Conference round out the impressive list.

The 8th annual GMAC Bowl will be played on Wednesday, December 20 and will feature a representative from Conference USA versus the Mid-American Conference or the Western Athletic Conference. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN.
