SEC Dominates Eighth Annual Coors Classic

coorsclassicprMOBILE, AL – The 2006 Coors Classic Doubleheader featured its strongest line-up in the seven-year history of the event.

Not only did the night feature legendary rivals among neighboring states, but prior to tip-off, the combined overall record of the teams playing in the Classic was 29 victories and only 6 losses. The sell-out crowd gathered to see South Alabama host Ole Miss, followed by undefeated Southern Miss and top-ten ranked University of Alabama in the nightcap.

In game one Bam Doyne scored a career-high 28 points as Ole Miss defeated South Alabama 82-72. Dwayne Curtis and Clearence Sanders had 16 points apiece for the Rebels, who led by as many as 20 in the second half. A team high 17 points by South Alabama junior Earnest Little was not enough as the Rebels and Doyne were able to make four free throws in the final 45 seconds to keep the Jaguars from mounting a threat.

In the main event, No. 9 Alabama and Coors Classic MVP Jermario Davidson posted a 77-64 win over previously unbeaten Southern Miss. Davidson was one block away from a triple-double, scoring 25 points with nine blocks and 11 rebounds. Alonzo Gee added 20 points for the Crimson Tide. Southern Miss point guard Jeremy Wise led the Golden Eagles with 19 points.
