University of Southern Mississippi to Represent Conference USA in 2007 GMAC Bowl

(MOBILE, Ala.)–GMAC Bowl President Jerry Silverstein announced today that the University of Southern Mississippi has accepted an invitation to participate in the Eighth Annual GMAC Bowl.

“We’re excited to have Southern Mississippi back at the GMAC Bowl,” said Silverstein. “We’ve got two quality teams that each won their divisions and went on to their conference championships. The match-up between Ohio and Southern Mississippi should be a great game.”

Led by Damien Fletcher, Southern Mississippi (8-5) dominates the league with one of the top rushing offenses around. Although Fletcher is only a freshman, he averages more than 100 yards a game and is the league’s second leading rusher. The Golden Eagles also have the top scoring defense in Conference USA, grabbing 15 interceptions this season.

The Eighth Annual GMAC Bowl will be played on January 7, 2007, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m. CST.
