Cheerleading Contest Begins 2007 GMAC Bowl Season Events

07prcheerleaders(MOBILE, Ala.) – The second annual Spectroincs/Cheer21 Cheerleading Competition was held Saturday, October 6, 2007, at the Mobile Convention Center in the Exhibit Hall. The 20 competing squads were from the state of Alabama, the Mississippi gulf coast and the Florida panhandle. This year the competition was open to Jr. High, Junior Varsity, Varsity, and Co-ed squads, both in building and non-building categories. “We received excellent feedback about our competition last year and we were told that there was a need to include younger squads. Therefore, we opened this year’s competition up to Jr. High and Junior Varsity squads.” said Jerry Silverstein, GMAC Bowl President.

There was no entry fee and the competition was open to the public. The squads were competing for a chance to win 15 free uniforms from Cheer21, letterman jackets, and megaphones and the option of cheering on the sidelines at the GMAC Bowl game in January.

According to Silverstein, “The competition has more than doubled from last year. We had about 20 squads competing this year and about 900 people total attended. This competition has been a wonderful addition to the lineup of GMAC Bowl events and we are looking forward to it growing each year.”
