Coors Light Celebrity Golf Tournament Kicks Off 2009 GMAC Bowl Season
(MOBILE, Ala.) –The GMAC Bowl Coors Light Celebrity Golf Tournament was held on Tuesday, May 6, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove. The tournament kicked off the 2009 GMAC Bowl season with a great turnout of both celebrities and locals.
The Coors Light Celebrity Golf Tournament is just one of 19 events held in conjunction with the annual GMAC Bowl.
“The response to this year’s tournament was as great as in previous years, and the weather was perfect for golf” said GMAC Bowl Executive Director Frank Modarelli. “Over 300 golfers teed it up at Grove, including over 50 sports celebrities. Not only is this a great event, but it’s a great cause, too. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Gus Shopoff Memorial Scholarship Fund and Team Focus, a non-profit organization for boys without fathers.”
The annual pairings party was held on Monday, May 5th, at the Mobile Marriott Hotel for the teams, sponsors and celebrities. Attending this event was Ray Perkins, former player and head football coach for Alabama; Andy Kosco of the New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds; Fran Curci, former head football coach at the University of Kentucky; Vince Costello of the Cleveland Browns; Wimp Sanderson, former men’s basketball coach for the University of Alabama; Johnny Majors of the University of Pittsburgh; Joey Jones, head football coach at USA.
