8th ANNUAL GODADDY.COM BOWL REGATTA SETS SAIL
FAIRHOPE, AL – The 8th Annual GoDaddy.com Bowl Regatta held at the Fairhope Yacht Club has moved up a month this year to Saturday, November 6, 2010. Traditionally open to all boats 19’ and greater, the classic event is open to juniors as well. Junior Classes: Optimist, Optimist Green, and Laser Radial will be added with 3 boats constituting a class.
“We are pleased to encourage the juniors to sail in this year’s 8th Annual GoDaddy.com Bowl Regatta,” announced Carl Wainwright, Commodore of the Fairhope Yacht Club. “The Fairhope Yacht Club has enjoyed participation of sailors in boats 19 feet since beginning the event in 2003. Boats from Pensacola to New Orleans have participated. It is a tribute to our FYC volunteers to be able to set an additional course so that Optimists and Lasers will be able to sail along with our other bigger boats. We are happy that we were able to move the event up a month in order to encourage more participation and avoid competing with so many holiday activities as in the past. We are grateful to the GoDaddy.com Bowl for our ongoing partnership and their generous support of this popular sailing regatta,” praised Wainwright.
“The GoDaddy.com Bowl is happy to continue our support of the GoDaddy.com Bowl Regatta and we’re pleased that the event is a month earlier this year and that youth classes are included in this year’s Regatta,” said GoDaddy.com Bowl Executive Director Frank Modarelli. “The GoDaddy.com Bowl is very involved as sponsors of youth through many programs. This event has become an annual part of the Bowl’s overall series of activities and we enjoy our continuing relationship with the Fairhope Yacht Club and this connection to the Gulf Coast sailing community,” said Modarelli.
Registration for the GoDaddy.com Bowl Regatta will be held at the Fairhope Yacht Club, 101 Volanta Avenue, Fairhope, AL at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, followed by the skippers’ meeting at 7:30, according to FYC Rear Commodore Mike Flynn, coordinator of all sailing races for the yacht club. Registration can also be made by going to www.fairhopeyachtclub.com.
In addition to the Junior Classes, sailboats 19 feet and greater are invited to register and race in PHRF and Portsmouth spinnaker and non-spinnaker classes. Registration fee for United States Sailing Association members is $35.00, non-USSA members $40.00. Junior Classes is $25.00 USSA, $30.00 non-USSA. Yacht club membership is not required. First, second and third place plaques furnished by GoDaddy.com Bowl will be presented to winning boats. Sailors and crews will be also eligible for a GoDaddy.com Bowl T-shirt as supplies last.
The 12th Annual GoDaddy.com Bowl will be played on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. CST at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, AL.
