Hankin’s Eighth-Grader Wins 2011 Mobile County Spelling Bee
(MOBILE, Ala.) – Jasmine Bouges, an eighth-grader at Hankins Middle School in Theodore, won the 2011 Mobile County Spelling Bee held on Friday, February 4th at Bishop State’s Baker-Gaines Central Campus Auditorium.
Second place was awarded to Quynh Le, and eighth-grader at Semmes Middle School and third place went to Kyland Camp, a fourth-grader at Prichard Preparatory School.
More than 50 elementary and middle school students from public, private and parochial schools participated in the contest, which was sponsored by the New Horizons Credit Union and the GoDaddy.com Bowl. The first, second and third place winners received trophies and cash prizes totaling $350.
Bouges will go on to represent Mobile County in the Alabama Spelling Bee at Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham on March 5, 2011. One lucky Alabamian will then head to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., on June 1, 2011.
New Horizons Credit Union and the GoDaddy.com Bowl provided contestants with gift bags, tickets to the GoDaddy.com Bowl and a lunch from Naman’s Catering. The organizations also provided the trophies and cash prizes for the winners.
