After a nail-biting spell-down, Santana Suon, a 6th grade student at Causey Middle School, became the 2012 New Horizons Credit Union Mobile County Spelling Bee Champion, winning the battle with the word “drapery”. The second place winner was St. Luke’s Episcopal School 8th-grader, Sarah Taylor and the third place winner was St. Paul’s Episcopal School 7th-grader, Daniel Lane.

Suon will participate in the Alabama Spelling Bee at Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Alabama on March 10, 2012.
