GoDaddy.com Bowl and Senior Bowl Join Forces

The GoDaddy.com Bowl announced today that they will be partnering with the Senior Bowl for the 15th annual GoDaddy.com Bowl Celebrity Golf Tournament. The golf tournament will be held on Monday, May 6th at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove. Shotgun start is 8:00 am.

This annual event brings sports celebrities and fans from all over the country to the area for a charity golf tournament benefitting organizations such as Mike and Mickey Gottfried’s Team Focus, a year-round mentoring organization for young men without father figures in their lives.

“We think the golf tournament alliance is a great opportunity for the Senior Bowl and Godaddy.com Bowl to work together on a project that benefits our sponsors and local football fans. Between the school supply giveaway last fall and now this tournament, it is important for these two organizations to have a quality relationship, so that we can contribute in a positive way to the Mobile community,” said Senior Bowl Executive Director, Phil Savage.

“We are happy to join forces with the Senior Bowl for the annual celebrity golf tournament. It’s proven to be a favorite event over the years and we are looking forward to working with them to make this year’s event a huge success for all of us,” said Jerry Silverstein, GoDaddy.com Bowl President.

Some celebrity golfers include Fran Curci, Mark Gottfried, Bobby Humphrey, Billy Kilmer, Jon Lieber, Johnny Majors, Ray Perkins, Dave Robinson and Wimp Sanderson.

Celebrity newcomers to the tournament this year include:

Purdue defensive lineman, KK Short, another potential late first or second-round pick in the draft and the North’s Most Outstanding Player at the Senior Bowl, was a first-team All-Big 10 selection after recording a career-high 54 tackles – 17 for losses with 6.5 sacks – his senior season.

Jonathan Cyprien, Florida International safety and projected as a late first or second-round selection in the draft after an outstanding senior campaign at FIU. The school’s all-time leading tackler notched 93 tackles in 2012 – including 3.5 for loss – to go with five pass breakups and four interceptions.

North Carolina defensive lineman Sylvester Williams who almost gave up football after high school, working at a factory building car radiators when he decided to give football another shot. Four years later, the first team All-ACC selection is projected to be a first-round draft choice. Before coming to the Senior Bowl, Williams finished off his career at UNC with a career-high 13.5 tackles for loss and six sacks in 2012.
