Local Art Contest A Big Hit For Mobile and Baldwin County Schools

Mobile, AL. (Nov. 21, 2013) – The GoDaddy Bowl and New Horizons Credit Union concluded the eighth annual art competition with a banquet honoring the winners on November 20, 2013.

The banquet was held at the American Red Cross on Sage Avenue and hosted students from schools in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

This year’s theme was “Top Athletes of the GoDaddy Bowl.” The contestants were grouped by grade level into the following categories: 6th-8th, 9th-10th and 11th-12th. Awards were presented to the top entries from each grade category by judges from the Eastern Shore Art Center and the Mobile Museum of Art.

The bowl received over 400 entries and judges narrowed them down to 9 finalist entries. The winning contestants placed as follows:

6th-8th
1st Place: Sarah Bender, Bay Minette Middle School, teacher Pamela Coffman
2nd Place: Brelyn Crutchfield, Causey Middle School, teacher Melissa Hinton
3rd Place: Trey Hunter, Knollwood Christian School, teacher Mr. Byrd

9th-10th
1st Place: Joshua Finch, Theodore High School, teacher Christy LeGros
2nd Place: Parker Piegza, Theodore High School, teacher Christy LeGros
3rd Place: Justin Gardner, Theodore High School, teacher Christy LeGros

11th-12th
1st Place: Laura Lopez, Cottage Hill Christian Academy, teacher Kathie Stabler
2nd Place: Lori Norwood, Baldwin County High School, teacher Renee McNeil
3rd Place: Luis Rodriguez, Theodore High School, teacher Christy LeGros

The students received cash prize awards for their schools’ art programs and were also presented with plaques and gifts from the GoDaddy Bowl and New Horizons Credit Union. The winning artwork will be displayed in various places throughout Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

For the past six years, winning artwork has been chosen for the front cover of, and all winners have been featured in, the 2014 GoDaddy Bowl Football Program.
