Tony Barnhart to speak at NHCU 1st & 10 Club

SEC Network broadcaster and Atlanta Journal Constitution (AJC) sportswriter, Tony Barnhart will speak to the New Horizons Credit Union 1st & 10 Club on Oct. 6 at Heron Lakes Country Club in Mobile, AL beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Barnhart, also known as “Mr. College Football” is entering his 38th college football season as a sports reporter for newspapers, television, internet, and radio. He has joined the SEC Network to contribute to studio network programming and columns on SECSports.com and brings over 20 years of experience covering the Southeastern Conference (SEC). Barnhart has recently returned to the AJC as a contributing columnist, in addition to weekly appearances on Atlanta’s radio station 680 “The Fan.”

Barnhart began his career in 1976 as a Sports Editor and columnist for The Union (S.C.) Daily Times. He worked his way up and began his journey in the SEC as the University of Georgia beat writer for the AJC and then later as the College Sports Editor and the National College Football Writer.  His experience led to extensive reporting roles on CBS and ESPN including “College Football Today,” “College Game Day,” and “The Tony Barnhart Show” to name a few.

Throughout his career, Barnhart has received many accolades for his contributions to sports journalism. His current honors and elected offices include the Honor’s Court, National Football Foundation and the College Hall of Fame. In 2009 he was honored with the Bert McGrane Award by the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) and has served as President for both the FWAA and the United States Basketball Writers Association. Barnhart has also published five books, including his most recent “Always a Bulldog” which was released in 2011.

Barnhart is a 1976 graduate of the University of Georgia, receiving a degree in journalism. He and his wife, Maria, live in Dunwoody, Ga. The couple has one daughter, Sara Barnhart Fletcher, and one granddaughter, Sloane Vivian Fletcher.
