HOAR PROGRAM MANAGEMENT AND GODADDY BOWL HONOR READING
Mobile, Ala. (Dec. 2, 2015) – The award ceremony for the 15th annual HOAR Program Management/GoDaddy Bowl Reading and Writing Program, which is meant to stimulate students’ reading and writing skills, took place Wednesday, Dec. 2 at the Mobile Civic Center Theater.
The seven-week contest, which ended in October, was open to all fifth grade students in the state of Alabama, as well as the Gulf Coast regions of Florida and Mississippi.
Over 1,000 fourth grade students attended this year’s awards ceremony. Other special guests in attendance included Boni Yraguen, Distinguished Young Woman of Oregon for 2012, Lieutenant Commander Richard Armstrong and Chief Bran Fitzpatrick of the United States Coast Guard and Johnnie Williams and Larry Mouton of Mobile County Public Schools.
The 10 finalists who entered the contest were sent Rebecca Stead’s book, When You Reach Me, to read and write a report to determine the winning place order. The winners were awarded Alabama College Counts 529 funds ranging from $500 to $5,000. They are also invited to attend the events taking place during GoDaddy Bowl Week, including the GoDaddy Bowl Mayor’s Luncheon, the Greers-AL.com Mardi Gras Parade and the GoDaddy Bowl game.

James Adams, Hoar Program Management’s Gulf Coast Group Leader states, “By far, my favorite part about the Reading and Writing Program is watching the faces of the parents as their children’s names are called as winners at the awards ceremony. The students are pleased and proud of themselves, but the parents realize the path their children have chosen. Knowing their sons and daughters are headed toward a college-bound journey is both rewarding and reassuring for these parents.”
Over the past 14 years, the HOAR Program Management/GoDaddy Bowl Reading and Writing Program has awarded more than $264,000 in scholarship money to local students.
This 17th annual GoDaddy Bowl will be played on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at Ladd-Pebbles Stadium and will be televised nationally on ESPN. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm CST.
