Former Oklahoma Head Coach Bob Stoops To Speak At Dollar General Bowl Mayor’s Luncheon

Mobile, Ala. (Nov. 12, 2017) – The Dollar General Bowl announced today that former Oklahoma head football coach, Bob Stoops will serve as the keynote speaker at the annual Dollar General Bowl Mayor’s Luncheon on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017 at noon at the Mobile Convention Center.

Stoops held the head coaching position with the Sooners from 1999 until he announced his retirement in June of this year, and was the longest-tenured FBS head coach. He is the winningest coach in Oklahoma history leading the Sooners to a school-record 18 consecutive bowl berths and 10 Big 12 titles.

During the 2000 season, he led the Sooners to a national championship victory. Stoops was awarded the 2000 Paul “Bear” Bryant Award and the 2000 and 2003 Walter Camp Coach of the Year.

Prior to coaching at Oklahoma, Stoops held various coordinator positions at Iowa, Kansas State and Florida.

Stoops attended the University of Iowa where he was a four-year starter at defensive back (1979-82). He was an honorable mention All-American and the team’s most valuable player in 1982.

The Bob Stoops Champions Foundation was created in 2000, and is an independent, non-profit organization that benefits disadvantaged and ill children in the Oklahoma City and Norman areas. Since its inception, the Champions Foundation has contributed over $1.2 million to worthy causes.

Bob Stoops is married to Carol Stoops. They have three children: a daughter, Mackenzie, who now attends the University of Oklahoma, and twin sons, Isaac and Drake.

Dollar General Bowl will present Champion of Life awards, an honor given to individuals who have had great success personally, professionally and philanthropically.

Past speakers have included Charles Barkley, Terry Bradshaw, Larry the Cable Guy, Brent Musburger, Danica Patrick, Pete Rose, Phil Sims and Steve Spurrier.
