St. Pauls Student wins 91st Annual Mobile County Spelling Bee
Mobile, Ala. (Feb. 2, 2018) – The 91th Annual Mobile County Spelling Bee presented by the Dollar General Bowl and the Mobile County Public School System was held this morning, Friday, Feb. 2, at the Davidson High School Auditorium. 62 elementary and middle school students from public, private, and parochial schools competed in the contest.
Maya Abrahim from St. Paul’s Episcopal School spelled “scherzo” in the 52nd round to claim the title of this year’s spelling bee. Marlan Zha of Phillips Preparatory placed second, and Reagan Baggett from Covenant Christian placed third.
Abrahim will advance to the state spelling bee on March 10, 2018. The winner of the Alabama State Spelling Bee will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the Washington, D.C. area in May.
