South Alabama Head Football Coach Steve Campbell To Speak At C Spire 1st & 10 Club

Mobile, Ala. (Sept. 12, 2018) –University of South Alabama Head Football Coach Steve Campbell will speak at the C Spire 1st & 10 Club on Monday, Sept. 17 at the Mobile Marriott in Mobile, AL beginning at 5:30pm.

Campbell the second head coach in South Alabama’s history ranks fifth among Sun Belt’s college football coaches in career winning percentage (.750), 33-15 record in his last four years at the University of Central Arkansas, and 159-53 in his last twenty years as a head coach.

Campbell’s coaching career started as a graduate assistant at Auburn under head coach Pat Dye. He then was a position coach at multiple schools including Mississippi State University and Offensive Coordinator at Middle Tennessee State University. Campbell’s first head coaching experience came at Southwest Mississippi Community College and has since been named the head coach at Delta State, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (MGCCC), University of Central Arkansas (UCA), and now the University of South Alabama.

Campbell helped Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to a record of 87-22, as well as one co-national title in 2007.While at MGCCC Campbell was named national Coach of the year twice while 28 of his student-athletes received All-America awards and 17 were selected Academic All-Americans. As head coach at Delta Sate Campbell’s team won the NCAA Division II national championship in 2000. During his tenure at UCA, the Bears finished no lower than second in the league standings where they had a 24-3 record in the Southland Conference. In 2017, UCA went 10-2 and declared the conference title with a 9-0 mark to become the number No. 4 seed in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision playoffs, in addition to Campbell being named the Southland Coach of the Year.

Campbell began his collegiate career at Southeastern Louisiana, and then moved on to Troy University. As a both a student-athlete and head coach, Campbell has had three national championships (Troy 1987, Delta State 2000, MGCCC 2007).

Campbell and his wife, Shellie, have three children: Kelsie, Steven Jr. and Tate.
