ST PAUL’S EPISCOPAL STUDENT WINS 92nd ANNUAL MOBILE COUNTY SPELLING BEE
Mobile, Ala. (Feb. 8, 2019) – The 92nd Annual Mobile County Spelling Bee presented by the Dollar General Bowl and the Mobile County Public School System was held this morning, Friday, Feb. 8, at the Murphy High School Auditorium. 57 elementary and middle school students from public, private, and parochial schools competed in the contest.
Maya Abrahim from St. Paul’s Episcopal School spelled “cobbler” in the 48th round to claim the title of this year’s spelling bee. Jason Farmer of Dawes Intermediate School placed second, and Brian Carr from Denton Magnet School placed third.
Abrahim will advance to the state spelling bee on March 9, 2019. The winner of the Alabama State Spelling Bee will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the Washington, D.C. area in May.
