MOBILE – Louisiana sophomore defensive back and kick returner Eric Garror is back in familiar territory.
The former McGill-Toolen standout and the Ragin’ Cajuns will take on Miami University in the 2020 LendingTree Bowl on Monday, Jan. 6 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be televised by ESPN.
“It means a lot,” Garror said. “It’s another football game, but to have my family and friends see me play is great. It’s going to be great playing football and having fun in my hometown.”
While Garror played his high school games at Archbishop Lipscomb Stadium, he has plenty of experience at Ladd-Peebles Stadium. He grew up playing youth league games there, and also faced rival Murphy his junior year.
“I’ve played here since park ball,” Garror said. “The Murphy game is a big rival game. I remember it was a big game for me and for our team.”
Garror has been a major contributor on defense and special teams for the Ragin’ Cajuns this season. In 13 games, he has recorded 28 tackles and eight pass breakups. He recorded a season-high four tackles against Liberty and Appalachian State. He collected a season-high three pass breakups against Ohio. He also added 25 punt returns for 161 yards.
“Eric has been a starter at corner and punt returner, not only this year but last year,” Louisiana head coach Billy Napier said. “He made an immediate impact on our team.”
This will not be the Ragin’ Cajuns first appearance at Ladd Stadium this season. Louisiana defeated South Alabama 37-27 on Nov. 16. Garror had a 72-yard punt return in the win over the Jaguars.
On the opposite sideline is Murphy High School product Zedrick Raymond a starting cornerback for the Miami Redhawks.
“He’s two year’s older than me,” Garror said. “We did not play against each other in high school, but he is like one of my best friends. We knew each other way before high school. I talked to him at the bowling alley (Thursday night). It will be exciting to play against him.”
Louisiana has one other local product on its roster, sophomore defensive lineman Timaje Porter is a graduate of Theodore High School. Porter played in the first four games of the season and is now being redshirted.
