LendaHand Small Business Grant Program Powered by LendingTree

Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021

MOBILE – The LendingTree Bowl announced today a partnership between the Bowl, LendingTree and the City of Mobile to highlight and support local small businesses during the lead up to the 2021 LendingTree Bowl through a grant program that will pump $20,000 back into the local community.

The 23rd annual LendingTree Bowl will be played on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021 and will feature teams from the Sun Belt Conference and Mid-American Conference. Georgia State defeated Western Kentucky 39-21 in last year’s event.

As part of this year’s bowl game activities, LendingTree is launching the “LendaHand Small Business Grant Program.” LendingTree will be selecting five small businesses to highlight beginning in late October, and of these five winners, two small businesses will also each receive a $10,000 grant.

“We are so excited to help small businesses in the Mobile community,” said April Whitlock, Head of Corporate Citizenry at LendingTree. “Since the pandemic began, small businesses have faced immense challenges and our hope is that the small business grant program will give those businesses an opportunity to be seen and heard.”

“We are excited to be part of and help facilitate this grant program for the Mobile Community,” Jerry Silverstein, President of the LendingTree Bowl said. “Supporting our local community is by far the accomplishment that myself and the Bowl office is most proud of.”

Businesses that have operated within the City of Mobile for more than a year and have no more than 25 employees will be eligible to apply for a LendaHand Grant between Aug. 31 and Oct. 1. LendingTree will give preference to women, minority and veteran-owned businesses. The City of Mobile will be working with LendingTree and the Bowl office to inform small businesses about the opportunity and how to apply.

“Mobile’s small businesses are a big piece of our economy and our community’s culture, and this program is a great way to put them at the center of an already fantastic event,” Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said. “We are proud to partner with LendingTree on the LendaHand program, which is similar to existing City programs that help historically disadvantaged small businesses.”
