24th Annual Lending Tree Bowl Set for December 17
MOBILE – For the second straight year, the game will be played on the opening weekend of the 2022 Bowl Season. The 24th annual LendingTree Bowl will be played on Saturday, December 17 at 4:45 p.m. CT on ESPN. It’s the earliest playing date in the history of the bowl.
“We are excited to be a part of the first weekend of the college football bowl season,” President Jerry Silverstein said. “This is a great opportunity to showcase the city of Mobile and share our rich bowl history with a national television audience. We had some tremendous games and many future NFL players have played in the LendingTree Bowl.”
The game will be played at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of the University of South Alabama for the second straight year.
The LendingTree Bowl will match up teams from the Mid-America Conference, the Sun Belt Conference and Conference USA.
Last year, Liberty defeated Eastern Michigan 56-20, with quarterback Malik Willis accounting for 289 total yards and five touchdowns en route to MVP honors. The 56 points scored by the Flames are the fifth-most in LendingTree Bowl history.
Willis completed 13-of-24 passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 58 yards and two more TDs on the ground. At one point in the game, Liberty scored on seven of eight possessions (6 TDs; 1 FG) and reeled 43 unanswered points to take a 56-10 lead in the fourth quarter.
He completed a pass to eight different receivers, including TD passes to three different players. He hooked up with DJ Stubbs on a 54-yard touchdown pass for the first score of the game for the Flames. He added a 20-yard TD pass to J. Huntley and closed the half with a 2-yard TD run.

2022-23 BOWL SEASON SCHEDULE ANNOUNCED
College Football’s Traditional Postseason Returns with a Full Slate of 43 Bowl Games

DALLAS — Bowl Season today announced the complete 2022-23 college football bowl schedule, which includes 43 games, beginning December 16. Most games will be televised on the ABC and ESPN family of networks, with one bowl each on CBS, FOX and Barstool Sports.
Bowl matchups will be revealed on Sunday, December 4, following the regular season and conference championship games. Bowl Season comes to a conclusion with the 2023 College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship, scheduled to be played on Monday, January 9, at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on ESPN.
“We’re excited to announce the full slate of bowl games scheduled for next season,” said Nick Carparelli, executive director of Bowl Season. “We’re looking forward to the return of college football. This announcement brings us one step closer to celebrating student-athletes as they make lasting memories during Bowl Season.”
Bowl Season’s opening weekend will feature nine bowl games, beginning with the HomeTown Lenders Bahamas Bowl on Friday, December 16 at 11:30 a.m. ET. This year’s CFP Semifinal games will be played in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and the Fiesta Bowl, both on Saturday, December 31.
