INAUGURAL BUDDY BALL GAME TO HIGHLIGHT 68 VENTURES BOWL COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY

Student-athletes from Delaware and Louisiana to volunteer at five sites across the Gulf Coast of Alabama

MOBILE, Ala. – Keeping with tradition and serving the Mobile and Baldwin Counties, dozens of student-athletes will participate in community service activities at five sites across the region, highlighted by the first-ever 68 Ventures Bowl Buddy Ball game to take place at the Miracle League of West Mobile: Schmidt Family Park.

As part of the 68 Ventures Bowl community outreach, players will partner with athletes from the Miracle League of West Mobile: Schmidt Family Park. Twenty-one players from each Bowl team, University of Louisiana and University of Delaware, will be the able-bodied teammate of a buddy ball player. This new Bowl Week event, sponsored by Alabama Power, offers another way for the visiting student-athletes to see what makes Mobile special.

“We are honored to partner with the Miracle League of West Mobile: Schmidt Family Park in what promises to be a memorable game for both the student-athletes and the league players,” said 68 Ventures Bowl President, Jerry Silverstein.

The Miracle League of West Mobile: Schmidt Family Park, which includes a baseball field and playground designed for children with disabilities, is operated by Mobile County Public Schools. Its construction was a partnership with the Mobile County Commission, South Alabama Utilities, the Alabama Pecan Development Company, Inc., and the Schmidt-Barton family, as well as many other donors.

In addition to the game, several other community partners have come together to make the day special for the league players. Alabama Power has sponsored the players jerseys. Other sponsors include Coca Cola United and CSpire, providing a full no charge concession stand while sponsor Harwell & Company has made plans for a special visit with Santa. Later in the week, the league athletes will then join their new buddies on the field during pre-game activities of the 68 Ventures Bowl.

“Alabama Power is very proud to sponsor the 68 Ventures Bowl Community Service Day,” said Alabama Power Mobile Division Vice President Mike Jordan. “The company has a long-standing tradition of community involvement, and this event is a natural partnership for our team. We are also glad to have our volunteer service organization providing support for the event as well.”

This event is one of five projects Bowl players will take part in during Monday’s 68 Ventures Bowl Community Service Day, student-athletes from the participating schools will also visit the following: Feeding the Gulf Coast, Mulherin Home, Children’s & Women’s Hospital and Prodisee Pantry.

Since its inception in 1999, the 68 Ventures Bowl has continued its commitment to providing opportunities throughout the community and enhancing the way of life for the people of Mobile and the surrounding region.

The 27th annual 68 Ventures Bowl will kick off at 7:30 pm, on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2025 at Hancock Whitney Stadium.
