New Horizons Credit Union Awards Prizes to Local Student Artist

Mobile, Ala. (Nov. 11, 2014) – The ninth annual New Horizons Credit Union Art Contest Awards Banquet presented by GoDaddy Bowl will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 19th at the American Red Cross on Sage Avenue.

Since September, students from Mobile and Baldwin Counties, grades 6th-12th have submitted artwork in accordance with this year’s theme of Cultural Influences of the Mobile Bay Area. The contest received over 200 entries from ten schools across Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

First, second and third place awards will be presented to nine students from each grade category. The finalists were selected by judges from the Eastern Shore Art Center, the Mobile Museum of Art and New Horizons Credit Union. Since the contest’s inception, the GoDaddy Bowl has awarded over $16,000 to local schools’ art programs.

“One of the GoDaddy Bowl’s primary objectives is to give back to the community in any and every way we can” said GoDaddy Bowl General Manager Sherrie Dyal. “With the help of our sponsors, we are proud to present this event which allows us to not only honor our youth for their creative abilities, but to support the arts, the Baldwin County Board of Education and the Mobile County Public School System.”

6th-8th Finalists: Jonathan Clair – Causey Middle School, Cameron Tait – Causey Middle School and Alannah Taylor – Causey Middle School.
9th-10th Finalists: Ansley Bohannon – Theodore High School, Alex Box – Fairhope High School and T.J. Roberts – Theodore High School
11th-12th Finalists: Niki McMullen – Theodore High School, Landon Pitalo – Theodore High School and Abby Young – Theodore High School

After the banquet, the winning artwork will travel around Mobile and Baldwin Counties for display, and since 2007, winning artwork has been selected for the cover of the GoDaddy Bowl game day football program.

The 16th Annual GoDaddy Bowl will be played Sunday, Jan. 4 2015, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN and kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. CST.
