Scott Stricklin to kick off 2014 1st & 10 Club

The Director of Athletics at Mississippi State University, Scott Stricklin, will speak at the New Horizons Credit Union 1st & 10 Club on Sept. 8 at Heron Lakes Country Club in Mobile, AL beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Stricklin is the 16th Director of Athletics for Mississippi State, and has overseen the stretch of academic and athletic success for the Bulldogs. He serves as chairman for the Southeastern Conference’s (SEC) Working Group on Fan Experience and is the SEC representative on the NCAA Division I Leadership Council.

Stricklin, a 1992 graduate of Mississippi State, is in his third decade of experience in intercollegiate athletics. He has held several positions at several universities including Auburn, Tulane, Baylor and Kentucky.

Under his tenure at Mississippi State, the football program has seen 30-consecutive sellouts and a school-record four-consecutive bowl games. Stricklin has also overseen record fundraising for athletics, which includes new facilities such as the $11.7 million dollar Mize Pavilion at Humphrey Coliseum, the $25 million dollar Leo W. Seal Jr. Football Complex and $75 million dollars in expansion and upgrades to Davis Wade Stadium.

During the 2013-2014 academic year, 11 sports advanced to NCAA postseason play, with seven earning top 25 rankings during the season. In the classroom, Mississippi State’s men and women athletes achieved a combined GPA of 2.90, and women’s sports alone posted a 3.15 GPA. In addition, all 16 sports exceeded the minimum standard in the NCAA’s Academic Progress Rate.

Strickin is a Jackson, Miss., native and is married to Anne Howell. The couple has two daughters, Abby and Sophie.
