Date Set for 15th Annual GoDaddy Bowl

MOBILE, AL. (May 15, 2013) – GoDaddy Bowl officials announced today that the 15th annual GoDaddy Bowl will be held at Ladd Peebles Stadium on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 8 p.m. (CT) and will be televised nationally on ESPN.

The game pits top selected teams from the Mid-American Conference and the Sun Belt Conference. Last year, Arkansas State quarterback Ryan Aplin threw for 213 yards and a touchdown, J.D. McKissic caught 11 passes for 113 yards and Arkansas State edged Kent State 17-13 to win the GoDaddy Bowl. This was Kent State’s first bowl appearance since 1972.

GoDaddy’s NASCAR star Danica Patrick was the Grand Marshal for the Greer’s/AL.com/Press-Register Mardi Gras Parade. Patrick also flipped the coin to start the game and presented the GoDaddy Bowl trophy to Arkansas State after the game.

“The GoDaddy Bowl game on January 5th marks 15 consecutive years for us. As we do every year, we’re working on making this one bigger and better than the last” said Jerry Silverstein, GoDaddy Bowl President. “We’ve received tremendous support for this game from the city and the citizens of Mobile for 14 years and we’re proud to continue providing offensively exciting games for the city, the country, the conferences, the schools and our fans.”

GoDaddy, the world’s top platform for small businesses, is sponsoring the college football game for a fourth consecutive year.

Last year, viewers saw GoDaddy.com prominently displayed on the field during the game. This year the company has dropped the .com from the GoDaddy Bowl, a rebranding move in line with the new .gTLD domain extensions (examples include .art, .app and .home) rollout happening later this year.

“We’re on a roll with the GoDaddy Bowl games! The last three years have featured exciting, edge-of-your-seat match-ups and we expect the 2014 game will be no different,” said GoDaddy Chief Marketing Officer Barb Rechterman. “There’s just something special that happens when you pit the Mid-American and Sun Belt Conferences … these players have a certain attitude, a level of grit and determination that drives them to ‘shine’ in their end-of-season spotlight, which is why we love this sponsorship. It reminds us of the passion our customers have for their businesses, plus this is a bowl game that’s just plain fun to watch. I know where I’ll be January 5th!”
