Local Art Contest Big Hit For Local Mobile And Baldwin County Schools

Mobile, Ala. (Nov. 16, 2012) – The GoDaddy.com Bowl and New Horizons Credit Union concluded the seventh annual art competition with a banquet honoring the winners on November 14, 2012.

The banquet was held at the American Red Cross on Sage Avenue and hosted students from schools in Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

This year’s theme was “Music in Mobile.” The contestants were grouped by grade level into the following categories: 6th-8th, 9th-10th and 11th-12th. Awards were presented to the top entries from each grade category by judges from the Eastern Shore Art Center and the Mobile Museum of Art.

The winning contestants are:

6th-8th
1st Place: Karl Sonalan, Causey Middle School, teacher Melissa Hinton
2nd Place: Keralah Taylor, Dunbar Magnet School, teacher Linda Duffis
3rd Place: Klein Sonalan, Causey Middle School, teacher Melissa Hinton

9th-10th
1st Place: Desiraye McKeel, Theodore High School, teacher Christy LeGros
2nd Place: Breanna Earls, Baldwin County High School, teacher Pamela Coffmen
3rd Place: Logan McDaniel, Saraland High School, teacher Mrs. Wood

11th-12th
1st Place: Leah O’ Rouke, Theodore High School, teacher Christy LeGros
2nd Place: Feng H Li, Alabam School of Math & Science, teacher Orien Kickliter
3rd Place: Jaclyn Fleser, Theodore High School, teacher Christy LeGros

The students received cash prize awards for their schools’ art programs and were also presented with plaques and gift certificates. The winning artwork will be displayed in various places throughout Mobile and Baldwin Counties.

For the past five years, winning artwork has been chosen for the front cover of, and all winners have been featured in, the 2013 GoDaddy.com Bowl Football Program. This year is Breanna Earls’ third consecutive year to place and the first year to have twins, Karl and Klein Sonalan, place.
