DOLLAR GENERAL BOWL TO DONATE TO LOCAL AND NATIONAL CHARITIES VIA INAUGURAL ESPORTS EVENT
Battle at the Bowl, a Part of Dollar General Bowl Week, Introduces On-line
Fortnite Gaming Tournament Fundraiser
MOBILE, AL – December 6, 2018 – Tournament officials announced today that the Dollar General Bowl is launching an online Fortnite tournament to bring together traditional sports and esports fans in efforts to raise funds and awareness for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Gamers Outreach efforts at children’s hospitals around the country with a donation to local hospital, USA Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Mobile, AL.
Partnering with Gamers Outreach, the Dollar General Bowl will make a donation of two “GO Karts” (Gamers Outreach Karts), a roll-up bedside, medical grade, gaming unit that is pre-populated with multiple video games that allow for children in hospital settings to break the monotony of a stay and provide some entertainment and distraction from treatments. “We’re so grateful to play a role in delivering entertainment to the families and children receiving treatment at the Mitchell Cancer Institute: said Gamers Outreach Founder, Zach Wigal. “Video games offer a source of activities and relief during hospitalization, and these GO Karts will be of service to patients for years to come.”
USA Women’s and Children’s Hospital has been a long-time beneficiary of the Dollar General Bowl and athletes from this year’s competing teams, Troy University and University at Buffalo, will visit the children of the hospital on Wednesday, December 18th while making the GO Kart donation. “Our young patients will be thrilled by these new gaming sets from Gamers Outreach,” said Chris Jett, USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital administrator. “We appreciate Dollar General Bowl’s generosity to our patients in this way and over the years in gift cards and merchandise. This kindness makes a difference to our patients during their healing journey.”
In addition to the local charitable efforts, the Battle at the Bowl Fortnite Tournament will launch tournament qualifying on Saturday, December 8, 2018 with players registering at www.battleatthebowl.com. Each competitor will be able to play a total of five games in a 1V1 format, with their top three scores taken throughout the qualifying rounds. The top 20 percent will go on to the Finals on December 22, when all points reset.
Every participant will be automatically entered to win prizes ranging from a gift cards to Dollar General Bowl swag, and $2 of every $10 entry fee will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on behalf of Battle at the Bowl and the Dollar General Bowl.
