DOLLAR GENERAL BOWL ATHLETES VISIT MOBILE HOSPITAL

 

Esports Tournament Fundraiser Results in Gaming Center Donation

 

MOBILE, AL – December 20, 2018 – Tournament officials from the Dollar General Bowl, along with representatives from both Troy University and University of Buffalo football programs, visited pediatric patients today at USA Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Mobile, AL.

Partnering with Gamers Outreach, the Dollar General Bowl donated two “GO Karts” (Gamers Outreach Karts), a roll-up bedside, medical grade, gaming unit that is pre-populated with multiple video games that allow for children in hospital settings to break the monotony of a stay and provide some entertainment and distraction from treatments. The units were donated on behalf of FORTNITE fans around the country, as gamers raised the funds to purchase the units through donations that came from their registration in the Dollar General Bowl Week Event, Battle at the Bowl, an online FORTNITE tournament that launched on Saturday, December 8, 2018.

“This hospital visit is such a meaningful event for the players and the kids and provides such a special experience for both parties” said Jerry Silverstein, Dollar General Bowl President. “Presenting these gaming systems to USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital is such an exciting addition to an already wonderful event, said

 

On hand to present the GO Karts were Mobile’s Azalea Trail Maids, Dollar General Bowl President, Jerry Silverstein and Philanthropy Coordinator, Jennifer Bexley; Dollar General Director of Public Relations, Crystal Ghassemi, and Chris Jett, administrator, USA Health Children’s & Women’s Hospital.

The Dollar General Bowl will be played at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, AL on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 6:00 CST with Troy University and University at Buffalo competing for the title.
