DENTON MAGNET STUDENT WINS 93rd ANNUAL MOBILE COUNTY SPELLING BEE
Mobile, Ala. (Jan. 17, 2020) – The 93rd Annual Mobile County Spelling Bee presented by the LendingTree Bowl and the Mobile County Public School System was held this morning, Friday, Jan. 17th, at the Murphy High School Auditorium. 65 elementary and middle school students from public, private, and parochial schools competed in the contest.
Owen Farmer from Denton Magnet School spelled “Ineffable” to claim the title of this year’s spelling bee. Nicholas Cooper of UMS-Wright placed second, and Joseph Sherrod from Phillips Preparatory placed third.
Owen will advance to the state spelling bee in March. The winner of the Alabama State Spelling Bee will advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the Washington, D.C. area in May.
