SOUTH ALABAMA HEAD FOOTBALL COACH KANE WOMMACK TO SPEAK AT C SPIRE 1ST & 10 CLUB
Mobile, Ala. (Sept. 20, 2021) –University of South Alabama Head Football Coach Kane Wommack will speak at the C Spire 1st & 10 Club on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at the Mobile Marriott in Mobile, AL beginning at 5:30pm. The address is 3101 Airport Blvd and the meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m
Coach Wommack starts 3-0 in his first season as Head Coach of the University of South Alabama. Coach Wommack became South Alabama’s head coach at the age of 34, making him the youngest head coach at the NCAA FBS level. This also means a return to the port city as Wommack previously served as South Alabama’s Defensive Coordinator under then Head Football Coach Joey Jones.
From 2018- 2020, Wommack was the defensive coordinator for Indiana University. During his first year, Wommack helped lead the Hoosiers to a top fifty ranking in scoring total, rush defense, and pass defense for the first time since 1993.
As a result of a successful 2020 season, Coach Wommack was one of the five finalists for the Broyles Award. His efforts helped IU finish 12th in the final Associated Press poll and Hoosiers defense finished 10th nationally in turnover margin and in the top 25 in scoring and passing.
In addition to his time at South Alabama and Indiana, Wommack served as the defensive coordinator and safeties coach at Eastern Illinois from 2014-2015. His official coaching career started in 2010 at Tennessee Martin as the quarterbacks coach.
In his college years, Wommack played fullback at Arkansas from 2005-06, and then transferred to Southern Mississippi, where he played fullback and tight end.
Coach Wommack and his wife have three sons: Asher, Tatum, and Jones.
