University Bands to tour Battleship Memorial Park
The LendingTree Bowl is partnering once again with the USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park during Bowl week. This year each participating university band will have the opportunity to explore the famous World War II USS Battleship ALABAMA on December 15, 2022. The USS ALABAMA is now celebrating 50 years on the beautiful Mobile Bay.
The USS ALABAMA was brought to Mobile after a two-year fundraising campaign by the state’s school children to save the Battleship from the scrap yard and help create a park and attraction on the Mobile Bay. Battleship Memorial Park is an inspirational historic Mobile Landmark and military exhibit honoring the men and women that have served our countries military. It remains as a permanent memorial to assist in educating the public on the many sacrifices and benefactions that veterans of all branches contributed.
The Bands will also tour the Medal of Honor Aircraft Pavilion, which is the home of an extensive military aircraft collection. This collection includes historic vehicles and numerous war artifacts including a new aircraft addition, a recently restored helicopter that was used by Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush.
Other notable park attractions, include USS DRUM Submarine and an area of oak tress shaped for the state of Alabama located in the park’s recreational area in which there is an oak tree from each county, each in their own particular county’s soil. The blue walkways through the trees represent the major rivers that flow through Alabama.
