UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA OFFENSIVE ANALYST DEREK DOOLEY TO SPEAK AT C SPIRE 1ST & 10 CLUB
Derek Dooley was named senior offensive analyst for the University of Alabama Crimson Tide in February of 2022. Dooley comes to Alabama after two seasons with the New York Giants where he served as offensive assistant and tight ends coach.
Before that, Dooley spent two seasons as Missouri’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. In his first season with Mizzou, the team ranked 3rd in the SEC in total offense, and 3rd in the SEC in scoring, as well as third down conversions. While under Dooley’s guidance, Missouri was one of only three Power Five offenses to throw for at least 279 yards per game.
Prior to his time at Missouri, Dooley coached wide receivers for the Dallas Cowboys from 2013-2017 where he coached wideout Dez Bryant to three Pro Bowl selections. During Dooley’s Dallas tenure, the Cowboys reached the NFL Playoffs twice.
Dooley served as head coach at the University of Tennessee from 2010-2012, earning a bowl berth to the Music City Bowl in his first year there.
Before his arrival to Knoxville, Dooley served as head coach at Louisiana Tech from 2007-2009. In March of 2008, Dooley was also named Athletic Director, being the only head football coach in the country also serving as the university’s AD. In the 2008 season, he led the bulldogs to an 8-5 record including the school’s first post-season win at the’08 Independence Bowl.
Dooley served as the Miami Dolphin’s tight ends coach from 2005-2006 under Coach Saban after following his leadership from LSU to the NFL. After four seasons with Coach Saban at LSU, Dooley was named LSU Assistant Head Coach in 2004. He coached the Tigers running backs and special teams in 2003-2004, and served as recruiting coordinator and tight ends coach from 2000-2002.
Dooley spent the 1997-1999 seasons as the wide receivers coach at Southern Methodist University, while also holding the duties of assistant recruiting coordinator during his final two years at SMU.
Dooley started his college coaching career with a one-year stint at the University of Georgia as a graduate assistant.
Derek Dooley is the son of famed Georgia Coach Vince Dooley who won a National Championship for Georgia in 1980, and later went on to become the University’s Athletic Director. He is married to Dr. Allison Jeffers Dooley, who is an OB/GYN and they have three children together, John Taylor, Peyton, and Julianna. John Taylor is currently on the Georgia Bulldogs’ football team as a wide receiver.
